Digital Cultural Adventures

Choose from four programs aligned with year level content that supports the Victorian and Australian Curriculum F-10. The programs particularly support learning related to:

  • Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS – History)
  • General Capabilities - Intercultural Understanding/Capability
  • Cross Curriculum Priorities - Asia and Australia's Engagement with Asia.

Digital Cultural Adventures: Awakening the Dragon

A virtual incursion program allowing students to visit the Chinese Museum from their classroom. Facilitated live by an experienced Museum Guide, students can learn about the myths and origins of the Chinese dragon, its role in the Chinese New Year parade and other important symbols in Chinese culture. A virtual incursion program facilitated live by a Shifu master who demonstrates safe ways to use this ancient art form to develop strength, balance and mindfulness. The instructor also introduces students to the origins and health benefits of Wing Chun Kung Fu. Read more

A virtual incursion program allowing students to visit the Chinese Museum from their classroom. A virtual incursion program allowing students to interact with the artefacts of the Chinese Museum’s collection from their classroom. Facilitated live by an experienced Museum Guide, students can learn about Emperor Qin and his Terracotta Army, burial customs and inventions of the Han dynasty, and the importance of the Silk Road.     The Chinese Museum has multiple galleries / space for hire, suitable for exhibitions, parties, dinners, talks and many other functions. All proceeds from venue hires go towards furthering our mission of communicating the Chinese-Australian story and promoting multiculturalism

    OUR ORGANISATION

    The Chinese Museum’s building, located in the heart of Chinatown, was built by the Cohen Bros. in 1890 and used originally as a furniture warehouse. It was acquired in 1984 by the Victorian State Government to enable the establishment of a Museum to provide the heritage and cultural foundation for Melbourne’s Chinatown.
