Bloom – a complimentary 1-hour concert of new music (Booking required)

Shimasheng is a collaboration between two musicians of vastly different background. Together they explore possibilities for the combination of traditional Chinese and contemporary elements and technology. Wang Zheng-Ting has performed around the globe on the Sheng (mouth organ) and is a highly respected composer, performer and ethnomusicologist, as well as being the Director of the Australian Chinese Music Ensemble. Duncan Foster, a composer and performer in multiple genres that include jazz, blues, East African (particularly Ethiopian), Western “art” music   and Vietnamese contemporary opera, is known for innovative intercultural colllaboration.

Bloom represents an extension of their previous concert at the museum in 2021 (Deep Roots, New Shoots) resulting in a range of collaborative processes, whereby each piece defines its own language, ranging from atonality to traditional melodic themes, jazz blues elements and electronic textures.
