At the turn of the 20th century, the Cohen Brothers established their furniture warehouse on the site where the Chinese Museum now stands, while William Angliss constructed his distinctive horse stables—now home to Longrain Melbourne, an iconic dining venue renowned for its modern Thai cuisine.

Step back in time to the early 1900s, when Chinatown thrived as a hub for multicultural entrepreneurs. Begin your journey at the Chinese Museum, then take a guided tour through Chinatown’s rich history. Conclude your adventure with a signature banquet menu and a welcome drink at Longrain, completing this unique historical experience in style! Any other beverages can be purchased on the night.

The Chinese Museum has multiple galleries / space for hire, suitable for exhibitions, parties, dinners, talks and many other functions. All proceeds from venue hires go towards furthering our mission of communicating the Chinese-Australian story and promoting multiculturalism
OUR ORGANISATION

The Chinese Museum’s building, located in the heart of Chinatown, was built by the Cohen Bros. in 1890 and used originally as a furniture warehouse. It was acquired in 1984 by the Victorian State Government to enable the establishment of a Museum to provide the heritage and cultural foundation for Melbourne’s Chinatown.
